A Ruth Burke Pigment Ink print is made with pigmented inks on archival paper or canvas. The detail, color and clarity are superior. They exhibit a real quality that makes the image “come alive.”  As one customer at a recent showing of Ruth Burke’s work expressed: "It feels like you can reach out and touch the scene.”

These museum-grade prints are recognized as the finest available today. The technical term for this type of print is Giclee. The term "giclee" is derived from the French noun "gicleur" meaning "jet, stream of liquid or gas forced out of an opening". More loosely translated, it means "to spray". The term was created by an early proponent of digital pigmented ink printing who wanted to elevate the awareness of the superior nature of this new printing process over traditional offset printing -- that a giclee was a print that was "sophisticated" or special.

A Ruth Burke photograph is printed by her, the artist.  She selects the paper or canvas for each image.  The rag paper prints will have a deckled or torn edge.  This artistic effect can be featured by custom framing with a “floating” technique.  To accomplish this look the artwork is raised and conservation hinged to a colored mat board about 2-3 inches larger, forming a border around the print.  A spacer is set between the glass and the backboard to allow for airspace between the glass and the print. The package is set into a custom frame of choice.  The artwork then appears to be floating in the frame.  All conservation materials are used to ensure long-lasting enjoyment.

Canvas prints are made with a special coated archival grade canvas. Ruth makes each print an original when she brushes on a clear glaze to accent the line, design and texture in the image. She will use brushes of different sizes and shapes to achieve the texture and movement she wants for each image.   Glass is not needed for prints on canvas.  The finish of the print with the varnish and embellishment is of a semi-gloss appearance.  You can touch and feel the texture and movement of each print on canvas.

Black and white images are made on Premium Luster photo paper using a rip software to achieve deep blacks with grey variations comparable to traditional black and white prints.

Each print is signed by Ruth Burke with her trademark signature in permanent silver ink in the bottom right corner.  Often a location or description is noted by Ruth in the bottom left corner in permanent silver ink. Prints on canvas are considered semi-original, with each embellished by hand by the artist.

Open and limited edition prints made and signed by Ruth Burke are offered on this website.

A “Certificate of Authenticity” is included with each print which certifies that the print included with this proclamation is an authentic Giclee print of an image captured and printed by artist Ruth Burke.  The print is made with genuine Archival Pigmented Inks for long-lasting beauty.

Custom Framing is available.  Call the Seaside Gallery for selections and  special Web site pricing!
